A file is characterised by the extension which it has. Windows allocate in every extension (.exe.bmp), a particular software (if this one exists), an icon and other properties. Options of files allow to change these parametres. |
To achieve options of files, go to ' my Documents ' for example. Click then on 'Tools ' then 'Options of files'. Otherwise go to Starting / Control panel. Click on 'Toppling over towards classical display' if you are under Windows XP. Double-click then 'Options of files'.
In the tab 'Types of files', a list lists all extensions
recontrées by Windows.
Which software click on an extension to know is currently defines to read this type of file.
By clicking on 'Modifier ', a new software in chosen extension is allocated. For example, if you want that musics mp3 are not automatically read any more by the reader Windows Medium, choose a new reader by clicking on 'Modifier '. Check 'Always use this programme to open this type of file'.
By clicking on 'Advanced ', they achieve the actions which it is possible to perform on this type of file. First of all, 'to Change icon', one to choose the icon linked to this extension.
Then, it is possible to add or to change actions on a file. By clicking on 'New ' or to 'Change ', they name that action (symbol 'and ' they underline the letter which follows to create an abbreviated). It is necessary to point out the programme which is going to carry out this action and some parametres 'to Use
DDE' if necessary. The abolition of all actions of a file (with 'Supprimer ') prevents any manipulations of this last (no opening with a software).
