By default, Windows XP conceal extensions of the files which he considers to be knowing. So a practicable file is noted programme instead of programme.exe for example. This option is not very practical since she does not allow to know in which type of file they have to make: a file picture (bmp? jpg?), an audio file (mp3? wav?) to treat him consequently with good software. |
To show or to conceal extensions of files, go to ' my Documents ' for example. Click then on 'Tools ' then 'Options of files'. Otherwise go to Starting / Control panel. Click on 'Toppling over towards classical display' if you are under Windows XP. Double-click then 'Options of files'.
In the tab 'Display ', check following option or not: 'Conceal extensions of the files to which type is known'.
In that way, you are free to choose if you want to simplify your display by concealing basic extensions of files or from the opposite if extension is a key information. Personally, I consider that it is necessary to know the extension of a file.
If you want to reappoint a file and to change its extension at the same time, extensions inevitably have to be visible. Follow stages above for it.
Windows will inform you that the change of extension can return the unusable file. In case of problem, delay the initial extension of the file.
